The Namibia Library and Archive Service (NLAS) in the Ministry of Education, Arts and Culture (MoEAC) will this week observe and host the significant day in the National calendar of the Namibian Heritage Week.
The Namibian Heritage week this year will be held under the theme: Heritage and culture, “A Rock Solid” foundation in Namibian sign language. the event is primarily aimed to appreciate and reconnect Namibian people with their roots and pay homage to their ancestral belonging.
The official opening was officiated by Deputy Minister of Information Communication and Technology (MICT) in absentia, Emma Teofelus on 20 September 2023, Wednesday at the National Library Archives, Windhoek. In her speech delivered on her behalf by MICT Chief Information Officer Johannes Hangula, she said the prime purpose of observing Heritage Week is to unite the nation and bring Namibian people together to share information about the history, heritage and our cultural diversity. “It serves as a platform for people from different background to learn more about each other’s culture and promote our co-existence,” said Teofelus .
Students from the University of Namibia (Unam), Namibia university of Science and Technology (Nust) and Triumphant College were also present.
