Ready to Use…In a significant program to roll out food programme and ensuring Zero Hunger in schools, the Ministry of Education, Arts and Culture, in collaboration with the Directorate of International Relations from Germany, today inaugurated a Soup Kitchen at Elim Primary School, Khomasdal, Windhoek.

This project highlights the Ministry’s commitment to maintain that no learner has to sit in class on an empty stomach, echoing the crucial sentiment of the ministry that “Hungry Children Cannot Learn and Cannot Excel”.

The kitchen built at the value of 60,000 Euros, was constructed within six-months with the assistance of some trainees from the Windhoek Vocational Training Centre (WVTC). The facility will support the Zero Hunger goal in Namibian schools by providing nutritious meals to the learners, in order to bring about the conducive learning capabilities and learners’ performance.

The Hon. Deputy Minister Faustina Caley, alongside Khomas Regional Governor McLeod Katjirua and Director of Education in Khomas Region Mr. Paulus Nghikembwa, among other official persons were present at the official opening ceremony.

Deputy Minister Caley recognized the importance of adequate and healthy nutrition in schools to achieve the envisaged educational success and further lauded the Germany partners for their support towards this project
